An audit tells you what is broken. This is the retainer that fixes it.

We already publish an SEO audit. It ends with a document. Technical SEO is the standing engagement that works through that document, ships the changes with your developers or ours, and keeps the site from drifting back. Most sites we inherit were audited once, two years ago, and the file is still open.

Request a technical review
  • Crawl and index

    • What Google can reach, what it chooses to keep, and the gap between the two. Log files where the server gives us them.
  • Rendering

    • What the crawler sees after JavaScript runs, which on most modern stacks is not what your developer sees.
  • Core Web Vitals

    • LCP, INP and CLS from field data rather than a lab score, because the lab score is not what ranks.
  • Structured data

    • Machine-readable facts that match the human ones. This is also what AI engines read before they answer.

Why an audit alone rarely changes anything

The pattern is familiar. An agency delivers a technical audit, the developer reads the first page, three easy items get done, and the rest becomes a file nobody opens. Twelve months later somebody commissions another audit and it finds the same things.

The reason is not laziness. A technical finding is usually written for an SEO and handed to a developer, in a format that does not say which file to change, what the acceptable fix is, or how to tell it worked. Bridging that gap is the actual job.

Our SEO audit is the diagnostic. This page is the standing engagement that implements it, in tickets your developers can accept, with a re-check after each release.

What we work on

Crawl and index control

Most sites either block things they need or let the crawler waste its budget on things that do not matter. Faceted navigation, session parameters, paginated archives, staging subdomains left indexable. We map what is reachable, what is indexed, and where those two disagree, then fix the routing rather than papering over it with noindex tags.

Where the host gives us server logs, we read them. Log data is the only place you can see what the crawler actually did rather than what you assume it did, and it is also where AI crawler traffic shows up.

Rendering

On a React, Vue or Next stack the HTML the crawler receives is often close to empty, with the content arriving later from JavaScript. Google renders, eventually, but rendering is queued and expensive, and some AI crawlers do not render at all. We compare the raw response to the rendered DOM and either move the critical content server-side or make the case for the change to your engineering team.

Core Web Vitals

We work from field data, not from a lab score. A page can score in the nineties in a test and fail INP for real users on a mid-range Android over a mobile network, which describes a large share of traffic in this region. The fixes are usually the same short list: an oversized hero image, a render-blocking third-party script, a font loading strategy, and a layout that shifts when an ad or a banner arrives.

Structured data and the entity record

Schema is where technical SEO and AI visibility become the same job. Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Article, FAQ and Breadcrumb markup, valid and matching what the page says. Beyond the rich result, this is the machine-readable version of your business that assistants read before they describe you.

International and multilingual plumbing

Hreflang, canonical strategy, URL structure per market, and the Arabic-specific issues most audits skip: RTL rendering that breaks at certain breakpoints, percent-encoded Arabic URLs that look broken in a SERP, and duplicate content between an Arabic page and its English twin.

How this differs from the audit

The audit is a fixed piece of work that ends with findings. This is a monthly engagement with a ticket queue, a release cadence and a regression check. If your developer ships a change that breaks something, we find it that month rather than at the next audit.

It also includes the boring maintenance that prevents most technical debt: watching Search Console for new coverage errors, checking that the sitemap still matches the site, and re-testing schema after template changes.

What we will tell you

If your site is technically fine and the problem is content or authority, we will say so and point you at the work that will actually move the number. Technical SEO has a ceiling, and on a healthy site that ceiling arrives quickly.

We will also tell you when a fix is not worth the engineering cost. Some findings are real and cost more to resolve than they will ever return.

Audit against retainer

One ends with a document. The other ends with a deploy.

Both are useful. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake in this category.

SEO audit (one-off)
Technical SEO (retainer)
What you receive
SEO audit (one-off)A prioritized findings document and a walkthrough call.
Technical SEO (retainer)A ticket queue, code or specs, and a re-check after each release.
Who implements it
SEO audit (one-off)Your team, from the document.
Technical SEO (retainer)Us with your developers, or our developers if you have none.
When it ends
SEO audit (one-off)On delivery.
Technical SEO (retainer)It does not. Sites drift, and templates change.
What it catches
SEO audit (one-off)Everything wrong on the day it was run.
Technical SEO (retainer)Regressions introduced after that day, which is most of them.
Best for
SEO audit (one-off)A second opinion, a purchase decision, a starting point.
Technical SEO (retainer)A site that ships changes regularly and keeps losing ground.
Typical outcome
SEO audit (one-off)A file that is 30% actioned a year later.
Technical SEO (retainer)A backlog that shrinks and stays shrunk.

If you have never had an audit, start there. If you have one sitting unactioned, this is the page you need.

How a technical engagement runs

  1. Baseline

    Weeks 1 to 3

    • Full crawl, plus a rendered-DOM comparison on the main templates
    • Index coverage read against what is actually reachable
    • Field Core Web Vitals by template, not a single site score
    • Server log sample where the host provides it
  2. Triage

    Week 3 to 4

    • Every finding scored by expected impact against engineering cost
    • Written as tickets with the file, the change and the acceptance test
    • Anything not worth fixing marked as such, with the reasoning
    • Agreed release order with your engineering team
  3. Implementation

    Ongoing

    • We ship what we can and specify what we cannot
    • Each release re-checked against the acceptance test
    • Schema re-validated after any template change
    • New Search Console errors triaged within the month they appear
  4. Regression watch

    Monthly

    • Crawl diff against the previous month
    • Vitals by template, with the change highlighted
    • Sitemap and canonical drift
    • Reported in the portal beside the rest of the program

The engagement

What the retainer covers

Standing scope. Larger projects like a replatform or a domain move are quoted separately.

01 Included

Crawl and index management

Reachability, coverage, crawl budget and the routing decisions behind them.

02 Included

Rendering checks

Raw response against rendered DOM on every main template, re-run after releases.

03 Included

Core Web Vitals

Field data by template, with the specific fix rather than a generic score.

04 Included

Structured data

Schema written, validated and kept in sync with what the page actually says.

05 Included

International plumbing

Hreflang, canonicals, URL structure, and the Arabic and RTL issues most audits skip.

06 Included

Monthly regression report

A crawl diff and a vitals diff, so a bad release is caught in weeks rather than at the next audit.

Have an audit you never actioned?

Send it to us. We will tell you which findings still apply, which are now irrelevant, and what it would take to close the file.

Why audits get filed

Three reasons a technical audit never gets implemented

We have inherited enough unactioned audits to know the pattern is structural, not a discipline problem.

Findings written for an SEO, handed to a developer

Why it happens

The document says what is wrong, not which file to change or how to tell it worked.

The fix

Every finding written as a ticket with the file, the change and the acceptance test.

No owner for the regression

Why it happens

A fix ships, a later release undoes it, and nobody notices until the next audit twelve months on.

The fix

A monthly crawl diff and vitals diff, so a bad release is caught in weeks.

Everything scored as high priority

Why it happens

A hundred findings with no cost estimate is a list nobody can start.

The fix

Scored by expected effect against engineering cost, with anything not worth fixing marked as such.

Plain definitions

The terms that come up in every technical conversation

Defined the way we use them, so nothing in our reporting is ambiguous.

  • Crawl budget
How much of your site a crawler will fetch in a given period. It matters on large sites and is close to irrelevant on small ones.
  • Rendered DOM
What the page looks like after JavaScript runs. On modern stacks it differs from the raw HTML a crawler receives first.
  • INP
Interaction to Next Paint. Measures how quickly the page responds to a tap. It replaced First Input Delay and it is where mid-range Android devices fail.
  • Index coverage
Which of your reachable pages Google chose to keep. The gap between reachable and indexed is usually the finding.
  • Canonical
The page you are telling search engines to treat as the original. Pointing an Arabic page at its English twin suppresses the Arabic market.
  • Field data
Measurements from real visitors rather than a lab test. It is what ranking uses and what we report.
  • Questions we get about technical SEO

If the audit is actioned and the site has not changed since, no. If it is sitting in a folder, this is the engagement that closes it. Send us the audit and we will tell you which findings still apply before you commit to anything.

Both, depending on your setup. We have developers and we work inside WordPress directly. On custom stacks we write the spec and the acceptance test and work alongside your engineers.

Technical work removes obstacles. It does not create authority. On a site with real technical problems the effect can be large. On a technically healthy site it will be small, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a retainer.

Directly. Structured data, crawl access and rendering all decide what AI engines can read about you. A site that renders content only in JavaScript is invisible to crawlers that do not render, which is several of them.

Not required, and it helps. Server logs are the only place you can see what crawlers actually did. Without them we work from crawl data and Search Console, which is a good approximation rather than the record.

Covered, and they are the ones most audits skip. Percent-encoded Arabic URLs, RTL layouts that break at specific breakpoints, and duplicate content between an Arabic page and its English twin.
