GEO للتجارة الإلكترونية: كيف تجعل ChatGPT وGoogle AI يرشّحان منتجاتك

Last updated: 27 October 2026. By Beshoy Adel, GEO and AI search strategist at VOCTOS.
Buying inside the chat is over, and that is good news for your store. OpenAI launched Instant Checkout in September 2025 and moved it out of ChatGPT by March 2026, barely six months later. Google’s own in-answer checkout runs in three countries, and no Arab market is one of them. So for a store in Riyadh, Dubai or Cairo, the whole game is being the product the engine names, then converting the click on your own site.
الخلاصة السريعة
- OpenAI pulled Instant Checkout out of ChatGPT in March 2026, about six months after launch, and pointed shoppers back to retailer sites and retailer-built apps (CNBC, reported 20 March 2026).
- Google’s UCP checkout button is live in the United States, Canada and Australia only, for selected merchants (Google Merchant Center Help). No Gulf or Egyptian market is eligible today.
- OpenAI said it is concentrating on search and product discovery inside ChatGPT, where it has seen the early adoption.
- Walmart’s EVP for AI called in-chat checkout “a very temporary moment in time” at a Morgan Stanley conference on 4 March 2026.
- Discovery is the part you can actually win. Clean product data, honest availability and real review signals decide whether an engine names your store.
What changed in AI shopping this year
The industry tried to move checkout into the chat, and it came back out. OpenAI introduced Instant Checkout in September 2025 with Etsy, Walmart and Shopify signed up. By March 2026 the company was redirecting shoppers to retailer sites and working with retailers on dedicated apps inside ChatGPT instead.
An OpenAI spokesperson put it plainly: “Instant Checkout is moving to Apps, where purchases can happen more seamlessly.” Shopify confirmed the split, saying its merchants’ products stay discoverable in ChatGPT while checkout moves back to the merchant’s own store, through an in-app browser or a separate tab.
Walmart saw it coming earlier than most. At Morgan Stanley’s technology conference on 4 March 2026, its EVP for AI acceleration, product and design called Instant Checkout “a very temporary moment in time”, and said Walmart’s own assistant would travel into ChatGPT and Gemini instead.
Why can Arab stores not use AI checkout yet?
Because neither path has opened here. Google’s checkout button, powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol, applies only to products with eligibility in the United States, Canada and Australia, and only for participating merchants. ChatGPT’s replacement model runs on retailer-built apps, which the large US chains are building first.
We tell clients that gap is less of a problem than it sounds. The part that moved out of reach was the payment step, and your store already has a checkout. The part that decides your revenue, which product an engine recommends when a shopper asks, is open to everyone with a crawlable catalogue.
| Path | How it works now | Where it is live | What an Arab store gets today |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Discovery in chat, purchase on the retailer site or in a retailer app | Discovery everywhere, retailer apps built by large chains first | Full discovery access, no in-chat checkout |
| Google UCP | Buy button inside AI Mode and Gemini, merchant stays seller of record | United States, Canada and Australia, selected merchants | No access to the button, full access to the listings |
| Classic organic and Shopping | Listing to your own product page | في كل مكان | Still the revenue base |
The payment step moved out of reach. The recommendation did not, and the recommendation is the part that decides your revenue.
What does an AI engine need from your product data?
It needs the fields a shopper would ask about, filled in and current. Price, availability, sizes, materials, warranty, shipping time and return window. An engine will not recommend a product it cannot describe confidently, and it cannot describe what your feed leaves blank or stale.
Google was explicit about why it kept investing here. Its shopping agent updates were built to pull real-time product data specifically to cut out-of-stock and pricing errors, which tells you what the failure mode looks like from the engine’s side. A wrong price is worse than a missing one, because the engine stops trusting the source. We see that pattern on nearly every store feed we open.
Six fields separate a product that gets recommended from one that gets skipped:
- Price, with the currency, matching what your checkout actually charges.
- Live availability, not a default “in stock” that your feed never updates.
- Shipping time and cost to the country the shopper is asking from.
- Return window and warranty, stated in words, not buried in a policy page.
- Specifics a human would compare: size, material, capacity, compatibility.
- Structured data on the product page that agrees with the feed.
That last point catches people. When your feed says one price and your page says another, you have given the engine a reason to pick a competitor. We cover the markup itself in our schema markup guide.
Which signals decide whether your product gets named?
Specificity and corroboration. The engine is assembling an answer from several sources, so it favours products it can describe precisely and verify somewhere else. A product that appears only on your own site, with vague copy, is a risky thing for a model to recommend.
That means your category and comparison pages matter as much as the product page. A shopper rarely asks for your product by name. They ask for the best option under a budget, for a specific use, delivered to their city, and the engine looks for a page that already answers that comparison. Build those pages and you become the source the answer is assembled from. On our store accounts, comparison pages move the needle before product pages do.
The same extraction rules apply here as everywhere else in AI search. Answer the question in the first lines, use a table for any multi-factor comparison, and keep the specifics in text rather than in an image. Our GEO workflow sets out the sequence we follow on client stores.
Reviews, and what they do to what AI says about you
Reviews are corroboration, which is exactly what a model is looking for. When an engine recommends a product it is implicitly vouching for it, so independent signals that the product is real and decent carry weight beyond their effect on shoppers.
We looked at this question directly in our analysis of whether Trustpilot and G2 reviews affect what AI says. The short version for a store: thin or absent third-party review presence leaves the engine with nothing but your own marketing to go on, and it tends to hedge or pick someone else.
My read: your feed is the product page now
Beshoy Adel here. Most Gulf and Egyptian stores I audit treat the product feed as a technical export that someone in IT set up years ago, and the product page as the thing marketing owns. That split made sense when the feed only fed Shopping ads. It does not make sense when the feed is what an engine reads to decide whether to name you.
So I now audit the feed before the page. Stale availability, missing shipping data to the Gulf, prices that disagree with checkout, Arabic titles machine-translated from English, categories left at the default. Each one of those is a reason for a model to recommend a competitor, and none of them are visible to a marketing team that only ever looks at the website.
I will not promise you a recommendation, because no agency can. What I will say is that in-chat checkout retreating is the best news an independent store had this year. The giants spent a year building for a surface that closed, and the surface that stayed open rewards clean data over scale.
What to fix first, in order
Start with the data that contradicts itself, then widen. The sequence below is the one we run on store accounts, and it is ordered by how often each step changes what engines say about a catalogue.
- Reconcile feed and page: price, availability and title must match in all three places including checkout.
- Fill the comparison fields a shopper asks about, especially shipping and returns to Gulf addresses.
- Write the category and comparison pages that answer “best X for Y under Z”, in Arabic as well as English.
- Add product and offer structured data that agrees with the feed.
- Build third-party review presence so the engine has something to corroborate.
- Check that your product pages render without JavaScript, because an agent that cannot read the price will not quote it.
In our audits, the rendering point is the one that silently blocks the most stores. We go through the crawl and render side in our guide to the technical side of GEO and AEO.
A wrong price is worse than a missing one. A missing field costs you one answer, a wrong field costs you the engine’s trust in the whole catalogue.
How do you tell whether AI is recommending your store?
You ask it the way your customers do, then log the answer. Build 20 to 30 buying questions per category, in Arabic and English, phrased as a shopper would phrase them, and run them monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode and Perplexity. Record whether you are named, which competitor was named instead, and what the engine said about your price. We keep that log per category, because the gaps cluster by category rather than by store.
That last column is the one worth arguing with. When an engine quotes a price you do not charge or says you do not ship somewhere you do, you have found a feed problem, not a visibility problem. Our framework for قياس الظهور في الذكاء الاصطناعي covers the query sets and how to segment the results.
أسئلة شائعة
We sell on marketplaces, not our own site. Does any of this apply?
Yes, and the leverage shifts. Your marketplace listing is the product data an engine reads, so the same fields matter, but you control fewer of them. Build the comparison content on a site you own so there is something of yours for an engine to cite.
ChatGPT shows a competitor’s price that is wrong. Can we do anything?
Fix your own side first, because that is what you control. Make sure your feed, page and checkout agree, and that your product pages render their price in plain text. Engines correct faster when the correct source is unambiguous and current.
Should we wait for AI checkout to arrive in the Gulf before investing?
No, because the discovery layer is already live here and it is what feeds any future checkout. Stores that fix product data now will be eligible the day a button appears. Waiting means starting from a stale feed when the window opens.
Our Arabic product titles are machine translated. Is that a real problem?
It is one of the most common ones we find. A translated title often loses the words shoppers actually search, and an engine matching an Arabic question to your catalogue needs those words. Rewrite the top categories natively, starting with your bestsellers.
How long before changes to a product feed show up in AI answers?
Plan in weeks and expect no guarantee. The feed has to be re-crawled and the page re-indexed before any engine quotes the new data. Fixing contradictions tends to show faster than adding new content, because it removes a reason to skip you.

إلى أين تتجه بعد ذلك
The useful question is not when AI checkout reaches your market. It is whether an engine asked today for the best product in your category would name your store, and whether what it said about your price would be true.
Two paths from here. If your feed is clean and current, write the comparison pages that answer real buying questions in Arabic, then start logging which products get named. If you have never audited the feed against your own checkout, do that first, because every contradiction in it is a standing reason for an engine to recommend somebody else.
